Venerable Seraphim of Sarov, miracle worker
Christ is risen, oh Joy!
(19.08.1759 – 02.01.1833)
St. Seraphim is depicted in icons as an elderly man with stooped shoulders and long white hair framing his face. His eyes, the color of the blue skies, are full of kindness, love, and wisdom. His right hand is placed on his heart and his expression almost seems to want to utter: “If only you could know, beloved human, what pleasure and joy await for your soul in heaven, you would decide to withstand all the pain and suffering of the earthly life with true thanksgiving and joy!”
Venerable Seraphim left us with beautiful inspiring morals, the most important ones pertaining to the purpose and goals of leading a Christian life. Being asked what was the purpose of leading a Christian life, the holy old man answered: ”The purpose of leading a Christian life is gaining the Holy Spirit’s grace. Find your peace of soul, and thousands of souls around you will be saved!”
God’s providence led the Zrenjanin choir to adopt the name of the great Russian Orthodox saint, Venerable Seraphim of Sarov the Wonderworker.
